Want to do something good and charitable today? Well, a new credit card unveiled by Bono the ubiquitous front man of U2 could be a way of helping the third world while indulging your shopping compulsions.

American Express, Gap and Giorgio Armani under the umbrella of new brand, called “Red” will kick back a percentage of revenues to fight Aids in Africa.

According to the telegraph “the money will go to the Global Fund, the world’s leading funder of programmes to fight Aids, malaria and tuberculosis. Products will include an AmexCo Red credit card; a new line of Gap T-shirts; Converse sports shoes made with African mud-cloth; and wraparound Emporio Armani sunglasses embossed with a Red logo.”

Apparently, the AmexCo Red card in particular will apportion 1% of accumulated spending to the fund on the holder’s behalf every quarter. In a case of the more you spend the more good you’ll do - spending more than £5,000 a year, increases the rate to 1.25% for the spend over £5,000. An extra £5 will be donated if holders use the card within the first month. This is a great cause and we at Credit Card Cool wholeheartedly support the launch of these products. So go and sign up for your AmexCo Red card now!
