Credit Union Eco Friendly Membership Cards

Eco friendly is such a well recognised term nowadays that you see most brands trying to hitch a lift on it’s coat tails.

But quite honestly, I didn’t think I’d see the day when credit cards would go green.

That’s what an Iowa Credit Union is doing by using a type of plastic manufactured from corn to make it’s membership cards. Great idea in my view.

According to KCRG:

“A Nebraska company, Nature Works, turns corn into a plastic-like pellet and then melts and forms the material into other products.
A study shows producing corn plastic uses 65 percent less energy, and it emits 68 percent fewer greenhouse gases.”

Renee Christoffer, VP Veridian Credit Union branches is quoted as saying:

“If we were ever approached to turn our Visa debit and credit cards into a similar material we would definitely pursue that,”

Can’t wait to see this idea ramped up for production of credit and debit cards.

Interestingly Veridian had already used the material to make coffee mugs for promotions.
